Hawthorn pair Sam Butler and Henry Hustwaite are the latest names that are reportedly looking for a fresh start.

The Hawks are amongst a finals series which will see them face Adelaide on Friday night in South Australia, where Butler will likely suit up.

The forward-midfielder regained his place in Sam Mitchell's line-up for last week's elimination final win over GWS, taking his yearly tally to four, which ironically is the same number for Hustwaite, albeit his last outing was in Round 14.

According to the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph, West Coast "are very keen" on Butler, while Hustwaite has been linked with Carlton and Essendon.

"West Coast are very keen on Hawthorn small forward Sam Butler ... they feel he can fill forward need, or even a midfield need,” Ralph revealed on Midweek Tackle.

"Henry Hustwaite is desperate to get out of Hawthorn. He wants a chance (elsewhere), he's ready.

"Carlton has been mentioned in dispatches; they're a no. But Essendon is the club that's potentially considering that."

Butler has played 23 games in the past four seasons and has shown his capabilities across multiple positions, which is part of the attraction for the Eagles.

As for Hustwaite, he too is amid a finals series for the club's VFL team, and throughout the year, has shown his dominance on ball as one of Box Hill's best players.

He gathered 31 possessions, eight tackles and a goal in the qualifying final loss to Southport Sharks two weeks ago, which was followed up by 37 disposals, 11 clearances and four tackles in the win over Brisbane.

Hustwaite is contracted for 2026 but is clearly seeking more senior opportunities, while Butler's future is undecided, with no deal confirmed for next season.
