The minor premiers, Footscray Bulldogs, increased their flag chances with a monster win over the travelling Frankston Dolphins.
Southport Sharks pose themselves as the Bulldogs' biggest challenger with a heroic victory over Box Hill away from home.
Brisbane and the Casey Demons kept their years alive, while Richmond and the Williamstown Seagulls head on holidays early.
A host of familiar names also took their place in Saturday's matches, with a keen watch on a speedy Hawk for the AFL side, while a Lion ruckman put his name into senior consideration.

Brisbane (87) def. Richmond (67)
The Lions' 2025 campaign is still alive after defeating Richmond's reserves outfit by 20 points at Brighton Homes Arena.
The hosts' seven-goal second term set up the victory, led by AFL-listed players Oscar McInerney (25 touches, 13 hit-outs, 11 clearances and a goal) and Deven Robertson (30 possessions and a goal).
Utility Conor McKenna slotted an important four goals.
The experienced trio are all pushing for AFL recalls ahead of the senior side's finals campaign, which begins on Friday against Geelong.
Draft hopeful Daniel Annable was impressive, amassing 23 disposals and six tackles, while also kicking three behinds.
James Tunstill and Shadeau Brain were also handy for Brisbane.
As for the Tigers, Jacob Koschitzke slotted three majors whilst also pinch-hitting in the ruck.
Jasper Alger kicked two goals while Samson Ryan gave his teammates first look in the ruck, recording 30 hit-outs against McInerney.
Liam Fawcett's inaccuracy (1.3) will rue the young Tiger.

Footscray Bulldogs (105) def. Frankston Dolphins (25)
Veteran Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar is pushing for a new deal, and his latest performance did his chances no harm.
Treloar gathered 35 possessions, 11 clearances and eight tackles in the 80-point win over the Dolphins.
Small forward Arthur Jones kicked three goals from 22 touches, while project ruckman Lachlan Smith recorded 39 hit-outs along with 22 disposals, seven clearances and a goal.
MSD prospect Zac Walker kicked four majors in the win.
It was a dirty day for Frankston with limited winners across the ground.
Jackson Voss (26 touches and five tackles) and Tom Blamires (22 possessions and seven tackles) were notable performers for the visitors.
Taj Campbell-Farrell and Noah Gown both hit double digits for tackles.
The Dolphins will take on Casey Demons in the semi-final, while the Bulldogs will head straight to the penultimate week.
Box Hill Hawks (94) def. by Southport Sharks (115)
Box Hill's loss to Southport was due to poor kicking in front of goal.
The Hawks had a host of AFL stars who could be pushing for senior selection next week against the Giants, notably Josh Weddle.
Weddle's return from a stress fracture in his back came in the form of 12 disposals and four marks.
Sam Butler (33 possessions, 10 clearances and seven tackles) and Henry Hustwaite (31 touches, 10 clearances, eight tackles and a goal) were significant, as was Max Ramsden, who slotted four majors.
Jai Serong and Cam Mackenzie were also key contributors.
As for Southport, ruckman Brayden Crossley was immense in the important victory, amassing 37 hit-outs, 10 disposals and a goal.
Boyd Woodcock (two goals, 25 touches, nine tackles and seven clearances) and Jacob Dawson (31 possessions, 12 clearances and six tackles) joined Crossley in dominating Saturday's match.
Former Geelong player Wylie Buzza kicked three majors as four other Sharks were multiple goal-kickers.
Box Hill will face Brisbane in the semi-final, while the Sharks will await their opponent in the preliminary final.
Casey Demons (132) def. Williamstown Seagulls (56)
Melbourne's father-son Noah Yze was the standout performer in the 76-point win, kicking seven goals.
Yze nominated for the 2025 MSD, and still plays at Oakleigh Chargers in the hope of following his father's footsteps, who is the current coach of Richmond.
Veteran ruckman Tom Campbell was instrumental in the win, recording a game-high 12 clearances as well as 22 disposals and 29 hit-outs.
Bailey Laurie (27 touches and seven marks), Blake Howes (25 disposals and 12 marks) and Jack Billings (20 possessions and six tackles) were also standouts for the Demons.
VFL-listed forward Paddy Cross bobbed up with four goals in the win.
Williamstown's dirty day didn't see many winners on the ground.
Jake Greiser and Joel Fitzgerald battled all day for the Seagulls, and can hold their heads high.
Goal sneak Brodie McLaughlin added three to his tally, while Damon Hallow contributed a pair of majors.
Casey will take on Frankston in next week's semi-final.
