Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks is excited by the prospect of playing under Friday night lights at UTAS Stadium against Hawthorn, which will be for the first time at the venue.

With an eye on the introduction of Tasmania, the AFL has scheduled two evening fixtures in 2025 to investigate the viability of night games in the Apple Isle.

During the winter months, Launceston can reach extremely low temperatures, with Friday's forecast ranging from -2 to 14 degrees throughout the day.

In Round 3, the Hawks hosted the Giants on a Saturday evening, with the former prevailing by 12 points.

"I think it's great for footy," Nicks said.

"We're trying to grow the game nationally, and I assume that's what we're doing this Friday night.

"Maybe it's an experiment on where the game can go, and is it possible to do it this time of year."

The Crows' venture down to Tasmania is deemed as one of the toughest trips in the competition, according to Nicks.

But the West Lakes club has found refuge in enemy territory in recent times, claiming the all-important four premiership points in Round 6, 2023, by three points. The fixture before that at the venue saw the Hawks flip the script by the same margin two years earlier.

The Adelaide coach confirmed that they'll take over a few extra players given the SANFL side plays on Saturday.

Top-end draftee Sid Draper will remain in Adelaide and will feature for the reserves team, while Hugh Bond and Lachlan Murphy will travel to Tasmania.

Midfielder James Peatling is the only confirmed out following his suspension for a dangerous tackle on Brisbane's Lachie Neale, which Nicks said he's spoken about.

"We've had the conversation," Nicks said.

"It's such a fine line. We ask our midfielders to tackle, and tackle with aggression. Not to hurt. I don't think there's ever an intent to hurt. But the split-second stuff, when we slow the vision down, it's easy to look at it and say, 'that's not on'. It's tougher in the moment."

The Crows are looking to solidify their position in the top four after claiming the past three victories, including a five-point win over Brisbane.
