Hawthorn forward Calsher Dear has been ruled out of Friday's semi-final against Adelaide after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Dear was sent for scans after he was subbed out of Saturday's win over GWS, with the results revealing a "low to moderate" strain.
The Hawks aren't prepared to rule him out for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The Hawks released their injury report.
"Not the news we were hoping for, but he's had an incident," High Performance Manager Peter Burge said.
"He was running at speed and just noticed a tightening sensation. But we subbed him out tactically during the third quarter, and we've since had a scan today, which has shown he's got a low to moderate-grade hamstring injury, which we need to put him into a very short rehab phase.
"He'll miss the game this weekend, and we'll need to reassess again for next week. He's certainly not ruled out of the season, obviously depending on how deep we can continue to go, but he won't be playing this week, and we'll progress back into running this week.
"It's worth noting, too, that Calsher's been on a heavily modified program this year, given the stress fracture he started with at the start of the year. He's a second-year player, but he has been pretty much doing first-year player loads in terms of his training. With a long career ahead of him, we need to keep building his conditioning and adapting to football and high-intensity football, and when you play finals footy, it's at another level. So unfortunately, he's not playing this week, but we'll get him back into a running program and hopefully see him again before the end of the season."
Dear's injury opens the door for Mitch Lewis to return to the senior side after he was dropped to the VFL last week.
Lewis responded to his axing, kicking four goals in the after-the-siren Box Hill Hawks win, and shapes as the likeliest replacement in Sam Mitchell's side.
The Hawks have also ruled a line through Harry Morrison's season due to a quad injury, while Will Day (foot) and Finn Maginness (kidney) continue their injury rehabs.
