Five-time Hawthorn premiership player Dermott Brereton has selected the three most clutch goals in AFL/VFL history.

Speaking on SEN, The Hawks great and Fox Footy analyst named the three best match-winning goals he has seen in the game's history, with two coming in the 1987 season.

"That is probably the biggest kick weโ€™ve seen captured for the best prize after the siren ever.

"The drama of poor old Jimmy (Stynes) running through the mark โ€ฆ Bucky (Buckenara) was going to kick a torp because he was that far out.

"When he got the 15-metre penalty it brought him close enough that he could kick a drop punt โ€“ and he was lethal from the set shot."
