GWS has been rocked by a suspected ACL injury to superstar midfielder Tom Green.

Green was helped from the field by two trainers during a match-simulation session on Friday morning.

“We are hoping for the best, but fearing for the worst regarding a suspected ACL injury," General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said.

He struggled to put weight on his left knee and was consoled by teammates as he left the track.

The 25-year-old Canberra product was primed for an enormous year, coming off a 23-game year where he averaged a tick under 30 disposals.

The loss of Green would be a savage blow to GWS' hopes of improving on its fifth-placed finish in 2025.

With Josh Kelly also sidelined for much of the season, it puts more pressure on recruit Clayton Oliver and adds enormous responsibility onto the shoulders of emerging star Finn Callaghan.

The Giants open their season against Hawthorn on March 7.
