GWS coach Adam Kingsley has revealed Jesse Hogan is no certainty of suiting up for Friday night's clash with West Coast amid injury concerns, while defender Lachie Whitfield has been ruled of of playing.
Whitfield was set to exit the AFL's 12-day concussion protocols on the day of the game in Perth, making him touch-and-go to be deemed available for the Round 17 affair.
The Giants' bye was timely for the veteran's recovery, but the shorter turnaround into the next round placed some doubt on an immediate return.
The club confirmed on Monday afternoon that Whitfield won't face the Eagles, having been limited in the lead-up to Round 17.
Hogan has pulled up sore in his foot since the Giants' win over Gold Coast in Round 15, with GWS to weigh up his week on the track and the idea of flying him across the country.
The Coleman Medal winner has been limited at training, with the Giants confident he'll be fit to play.
"He's just a bit sore," Kingsley said.
"It's a long season for a key forward. We think he'll be OK, he's just a bit sore. We'll train him on Wednesday and see how he goes.
"There's a chance (we rest him). We treat these guys symptomatically. If they're good to go, they play. If they're not, they don't. That's how it unfolds."
Forward Brent Daniels is "a while away" from his adductor issue and is facing another stint on the sidelines, while Josh Kelly and Kieren Briggs are "good to go" to face the Eagles.
Briggs' potential return from an ankle injury will give Kingsley much to consider with his ruck setup for this week, with recent debutant Nick Madden promising his coaches in Briggs' absence.
"There's a chance (he keeps his spot). We've been really happy with him," Kingsley said of Madden.
"We'll assess and discuss a bit later on in the week. They'll get through main training on Wednesday.
"We've been really happy with 'Maddo'. 'Briggsy', we know what he gives us when he's up and going.
"It'll be an interesting discussion to see how that one plays out."
Veteran Stephen Coniglio is set to play VFL this weekend pending he gets through main training, with the former GWS captain potentially in line for a block of matches in the reserves following months out of action due to a glute concern.
GWS will head to Western Australia later this week to face the Eagles at Optus Stadium on Friday night, with a return to New South Wales to follow for a home game against Geelong.
