GWS have confirmed the details surrounding ex-Essendon defender Jayden Laverde's move to the New South Wales club.

Laverde has been closely linked to the Giants after the Bombers confirmed he had sought an exit in favour of opportunities elsewhere.

While the free agency and trade period commences from Friday, Laverde won't join the Giants until after the draft in late November, likely as a Supplemental Selection Period acquisition.

In a club statement on Tuesday, GWS football boss Jason McCartney echoed the club's delight in securing the signature of Laverde.

“We're delighted that Jayden has decided to join the club as he'll add a host of experience as well as depth to our key defensive stocks,” McCartney said.

Laverde brings 145 games of experience in the top flight, having started his career with Essendon in 2014 after being taken with the 20th overall pick.

Ninety-nine of those games have come in the past five seasons alone, with Laverde developing into a key defender after being utilised across the field earlier in his career.

He would play 14 games under senior coach Brad Scott this year, averaging 15.4 disposals and 6.9 marks per game.

His move to GWS will come after young backman Leek Aleer leaves the Giants for St Kilda during the trade period.
