GWS coach Adam Kingsley is concerned that emerging defender Leek Aleer may depart at season's end, with St Kilda expected to lure the 23-year-old south successfully.

It is understood that Aleer is weighing a two-year offer from the Giants, worth $800,000, against the Saints' four-year deal, which is worth around $3 million.

The interest from the Moorabbin club comes as they attempt to bolster their list with star talent, and although Aleer has been limited due to opportunity, he's shown plenty in his 20 games.

Following the club's 48-point win over Essendon on Thursday night, Kingsley spoke about the prospect of the former first-round selection leaving.

"Yeah, a little bit (worried), we think he's going to be an extremely good player for a long period of time," Kingsley said on SEN Breakfast.

"He's only a young fella, he's so versatile, can play tall, can play small.

"So, we're a little bit worried, but all we can do is put a contract in front of him and convince him that the Giants is the place for him to be.

"He loves being at the footy club, but it won't be a decision around whether he enjoys his time here or not."

Sam Taylor, Jack Buckley, Connor Idun and Harry Himmelberg's durability and consistency have kept Aleer in the VFL more often than not, and in the four years he's been at the Giants, he only sees the AFL light when one or more of those are injured.

It would be a massive coup for St Kilda, who have tried and failed to lure big-name stars to the mediocre club that has seen finals twice since 2012.

The Saints are also expected to land Carlton restricted free agent Tom De Koning, and were in the market for Aleer's teammate Finn Callaghan and Port Adelaide's Miles Bergman, before the pair re-signed.
