Collingwood's ruck division featuring star big man Brodie Grundy is the best in the competition, according to former Saints and Bombers star Brendan Goddard.

Goddard named the Pies' ruck department number one in his Herald Sun story, ranking every club across the league 1-18.

Grundy is coming off two All Australian caps and expected to re-sign with Collingwood on a mega seven-year deal worth around $7 million in what will make him the highest paid ruckman in the game's history.

"I rate Grundy as the best ruckman in the competition, a clear dominant No.1. What he lacks with tap-out work he more than makes up for with his ability to follow up and win his own ball around the ground," Goddard wrote.

"A deserving starting ruckman in the 2019 All-Australian side."

Rounding out Goddard's top four is Melbourne, West Coast and North Melbourne.
