Seasoned Geelong pair Mitch Duncan and Cam Guthrie set to return from injury via the VFL on Sunday against Sydney.

It's Duncan's first game for seven weeks, having undergone AC joint surgery, while it will be Guthrie's first game in almost three months, with a calf injury sidelining him.

Jake Koladjashnij is also set to play his second game back from a groin injury.

"They [Kolodjashnij and Duncan] are both going to play which is good, it is exciting for us,” Scott said.

“Cam just had a little bit of an unrelated hiccup to his previous injury, otherwise he would have played last week. It is good for him to get some game time, so we are optimistic and open minded as to what the next few weeks might look like for them.

“Kolodjashnij getting another game probably fits in that category as well."

Coach Chris Scott left the door ajar for both to come into AFL consideration in the finals, and Sunday's VFL match is set to be significant in their selection push.

With Geelong to miss the VFL finals, it will be their last organised match, but Scott indicated match practice against an AFL opponent was on the cards next week.

“I don't think it is a long enough period of time to think, they just haven't had enough footy to be considered,” Scott said.

“We would prefer to have played a little bit more but most clubs sort of go through these issues towards the end of the year.

“You can't have much say in your schedule, you can't have much say other than playing better whether your VFL team makes finals…we feel like we'll have a big squad available if that opportunity presents.”
