Geelong utility Mark Blicavs has penned a one-year extension to remain at the club until the end of 2026.

The versatile Blicavs was set to come out of contract at season's end, but was never tipped to depart the Cats as they search for a second premiership in four seasons.

Since debuting in 2013 after being drafted in the rookie intake the year prior, the 34-year-old has featured 279 times in the blue and white hoops, having only dipped once under the 20-match mark in 12 completed seasons.

On top of his 2022 premiership medallion, Blicavs also claimed an All-Australian blazer in the same season, while also becoming a two-time Carji Greeves medallist and club life member.

Geelong coach Chris Scott has used the former middle-distance runner and steeplechaser in every role on the ground, which points to his incredible versatility and selflessness.

Cats EGM of Football Andrew Mackie acknowledged the value Blicavs has in the team.

"Blitz is an incredibly flexible and a dependable teammate and is an outstanding leader for our football program," Mackie said.

"It was an easy decision for us to extend Blitz' contract. He remains a key piece for us and will continue to be a key driver of high standards and team success."

Blicavs' new deal puts him in line to reach 300 games, which will place him alongside Hawthorn's Luke Breust as the only rookie drafted players to reach the major milestone.

After a stirring victory over the Western Bulldogs in Round 11, the Cats will travel west to take on West Coast before a clash with Gold Coast leading into the mid-season bye.
