A nasty training incident has forced Collingwood tall Mason Cox to be taken to hospital.

As reported by SEN's Sam Edmund, the 211cm Magpie was struck on the throat after receiving some friendly fire at training on Wednesday.

Shortly after, the 30-year-old was assisted into an ambulance before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

The incident is another setback for Cox, who hasn't featured in Nathan Buckley's side since Round 4 after being dropped to the VFL side following a goalless outing against the Giants.

Cox booted six goals in the three weeks prior and has continued to impact the scoreboard in the reserves so far this year, adding a further six goals to his 2021 tally across both levels.

The American ruck/forward utility is currently yet to recommit to the Magpies beyond this season and could be another senior figure to have his ties cut from the Holden Centre.

Cox has played 73 games and booted 91 goals in the black and white since making his debut for Collingwood in 2016.

The Magpies currently sit in 16th with a 2-7 record ahead of their Round 10 clash at the MCG to face Port Adelaide.
