Fremantle midfielder Hayden Young is reportedly set for surgery on an injured hamstring he sustained during the loss to St Kilda in Round 8.

Young's year to date has been hindered by persistent soft-tissue problems, and the latest saga could put his campaign in jeopardy.

This is the third occurrence for the left-footer, all of which have come on his right hamstring.

Teammate and Dockers vice-captain Caleb Serong couldn't contain his disappointment following another Young injury, saying he wanted "to cry for him" once

"It was tough. He's a tough bugger though. He'll continue to work and get himself back out there," Serong said.

"I know that he'll do everything he can to get back out there this year. It's just really frustrating, these recurring injuries are really disheartening when you do everything you can to get back, and it happens again.

"He's one you can never question his professionalism, and never question his preparation. It's one of those ones that doesn't make sense."

Fremantle will release more information on Young's injury on Tuesday, along with any other injury news leading into Round 9.
