Fremantle has bolstered its list ahead of the 2026 season, signing Chris Scerri via the SSP ahead of its March 2 deadline.

Scerri came from obscurity to join the Dockers, spending 2025 at VFL club Northern Bullants, playing 18 games.

He came on the radar of the state league side following his premiership with EDFL powerhouse Strathmore, where he was named best on in the 2025 decider.

The Dockers had one vacancy at the club, opting to sign Scerri as a small forward.

The 19-year-old's speed and defensive efforts in the front half are his main attributes, although his goalkicking nous is one to watch.

"I'm just speechless honestly, I can't wait to get stuck in with the boys," Scerri said.

"It's something I will cherish forever and I'm just super grateful for the Freo Dockers family.

"I like taking the game on with my speed, run and agility. I also love a tackle and like to put pressure on my opponent to force turnovers."

Richmond VFL snared him ahead of the 2026 season prior to Fremantle bringing him to Western Australia for an AFL opportunity.

The Dockers also considered Victorian ruckman Zac Harding, but ultimately overlooked the tall, leaving Scerri as the most likely selection.

Harding has signed with WAFL outfit Perth for the 2026 season.

Justin Longmuir and his coaching group have focused on bolstering their small forward stocks, locking away Adam Sweid and Leon Kickett in the most recent draft window.

Scerri will follow in the footsteps of Isaiah Dudley, who was the club's SSP signing 12 months ago.

Michael Frederick, Sam Switkowski and Murphy Reid currently occupy roles inside 50, while Shai Bolton and Hayden Young swing through the midfield and attack.

The Dockers are set to take on cross-town rivals West Coast on Sunday in their first proper hitout for 2026.

A clash against Adelaide awaits a week later before a Round 1 contest with Geelong will unveil the new season.
