Fox Sports and Melbourne great Garry Lyon have both been forced to apologised after a comment Lyon made about Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek during Wednesday night's edition of AFL 360.

During an ad-break, AFL 360 hosts Gerard Whateley and Lyon welcomed guests Adam Simpson and John Longmire onto the show.

Former Sydney coach Longmire mentioned his recent visit with the club to Canberra where he met Plibersek as well as other politicians.

Whateley asked what Plibersek was minister for, before Lyon responded with "bull****".

Fox Sports and Lyon released a statement on Thursday regarding the comments which were picked up by news outlet Crickey.

“I apologise personally to Minister Plibersek,” Lyon said.

“While the comment was meant in jest it was clearly disrespectful and I am sorry for the offence and embarrassment it caused.”

Fox Sports managing director Steve Crawley also apologised for the comments made.

“The off-air comment was made by Garry Lyon during an ad-break on AFL 360 and while the comment did not go to air, it was inadvertently included in the program when it was uploaded to another platform later in the night,” he said.

“The comment during the break does not reflect our values and standards and was disrespectful to the Minister and the hard work that she and all politicians do in representing our community.

“We have apologised to the Minister this morning and reminded our presenters of the need to be respectful and professional at all times, both on and off camera.”
The video also shows Lyon looking something up on his phone before naming Plibersek's ministry and stating “I think mine was more accurate”.
The ad break wasn't part of the live show, but was inadvertently uploaded as part of the recorded version on another streaming platform.
