Western Bulldogs premiership player Lachie Hunter has joined Sydney's AFLW coaching team ahead of the new season.

Hunter and inaugural AFLW Swans co-captain Brooke Lochland have signed on for the remaining spots at the New South Wales club.

The appointments come as one of Sydney's favourite sons, Nick Davis, as well as the U16 Girls All-Australian coach, Bronwyn Gulden, stepped away from their roles.

Davis' departure comes after 15 years at the club in a coaching capacity, as well as five seasons as a player, including his heroics during the 2005 premiership run.

Hunter played 199 games across the Bulldogs and Melbourne, and was a pivotal part of the drought-breaking premiership in 2016.

His experience and skillset will be deployed in Sydney's backline. As for Lochland, she will take care of the forward line. Meanwhile, Tanya Hetherington will move into the midfield coaching position.

Sydney EGM of AFLW Football, Amanda Turner, welcomed the pair of former players to the club.

"Lachie had an outstanding playing career and brings significant AFL experience to our program. His knowledge of the game and on-field leadership will make him a valuable addition to our coaching team," said Turner.

"We're thrilled to have Brooke remain at our club in an official coaching capacity this season.

"She is respected by our playing group, and her recent on-field experience will translate well into her new role.

"Brooke is excited by the opportunity, and we look forward to seeing her growth in the coaching space."

The Sydney Swans open their AFLW season against Richmond on Friday, August 15, at North Sydney Oval.
