The Dockers were one of the biggest winners of the 2024 trade period, landing former Tigers superstar Shai Bolton, which has propelled their charge toward a maiden premiership in 2025.

As the season winds down, it has become apparent there are no glaring holes in Fremantle's playing list, making their potential off-season one of intrigue.

So, where can they make upgrades, and which out-of-contract players could the Purple Haze realistically add as they enter their latest premiership window?

We take a look at five trade and free agency targets for Fremantle to consider this year.

While potentially a difficult option to land, Fremantle could try their hand at trading for Melbourne young gun Trent Rivers.

Rivers was drafted to the Victorian-based side in the 2019 National Draft, but grew up in the Fremantle area, playing for East Fremantle in the WAFL in his draft year. A return home with the promise of greater playing opportunity could be a big enough lure for the 24-year-old to request a move to the Dockers.

Rivers has had an exceptional sixth season with Melbourne, averaging a career-high 21.4 disposals and 5.8 marks. He began as a defensive cog in Melbourne's system but in the past two years has transitioned to the midfield occasionally, attending 17.6% of centre bounces this season.

With Nat Fyfe announcing his retirement, the Dockers could use some extra midfield depth and would be able to take advantage of Rivers' versatility as a defensive option as well, maintaining their identity as one of the stingiest defensive units in the league.
