The Brisbane Lions have become top eight regulars this decade and consistently find themselves in premiership contention.

The great teams of the modern era always find ways to get better each season, however, so as the Lions seek to reach a third consecutive Grand Final, they'll also have a keen eye on the impending trade period. With several key positional players off-contract, Brisbane have the opportunity to drastically shake up - and improve - the current core of their playing list.

Here are five trade and free agency targets for Brisbane to consider this year.

Brisbane have again been linked to out-of-contract Collingwood star Jamie Elliott, with the forward yet to receive a contract extension from the Magpies.

The 32-year-old's 2025 campaign has been unbelievable, already kicking a career-high 47 goals through 19 games. Elliott nearly joined the Lions in 2019 but ended up re-signing, yet as more time passes without an offer from Collingwood, the temptation to conclude his stellar career in the sunshine state is very real.

Similarly to Allen, Elliott would bolster the Lions forward line significantly, with his high-flying threat adding to an athletic mix of talent inside 50. While Elliott's age doesn't align with the core of Brisbane's playing group, the Lions have proven their capability to extend the twilight of AFL careers, with Dayne Zorko and Charlie Cameron both finding career-best form after turning 30 years old.
