Geelong have been named as the likely favourite for West Coast young gun Harley Reid if the former No.1 draft pick was to leave the Eagles.
Reid is under contract until the end of next year, still on the initial draft contract he signed after being recruited to Perth out of Tongala via the 2023 AFL Draft.
The 20-year-old has continued to make headlines for his on-field traits and antics as well as the pending contract call, with Reid anticipated to become one of the highest-paid players in the AFL with his next deal.
The Eagles are said to have tabled multiple contract options for Reid to mull over as rivals from Victoria continue to express strong interest in the explosive ball winner.
Hawthorn, Geelong, Essendon, Richmond and Collingwood have been identified as clubs with interest in Reid, who has less than 18 months to sew up his future for 2027 and beyond.
Speaking on Hawthorn and Geelong's list builds, AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey said both sides are positioning themselves to lure A-grade talent this off-season.
"The trade market sources that I speak to suggest these two clubs are absolutely in the A-grade search," Twomey said on Gettable.
"They are in the SAP part of their (list) building - the Strong Acquisition Phase. They are active, they are proactive, they are getting busy."
With both sides among those keen on Reid's services, Twomey named the Cats as the side favoured in the race.
"I think the favourite for Harley would be Geelong if he left," he added.
Reid has played 26 games for West Coast since making his debut last year, averaging 18.12 disposals, 3.77 tackles, 4.35 clearances and 8.88 contested possessions per game.
Speaking at Gather Round, Reid's coach Andrew McQualter expressed his confidence in the club retaining Reid for 2026 amid rumours the young utility could seek a move 12 months prior to the end of his contract.
"We clearly want Harley to stay and be a long-term player for our footy club," McQualter said.
"He's contracted for next year, we haven't heard anything to indicate (he's a chance to seek a trade this year), so we're confident Harley will (be an Eagle in 2026).
"He's invested in our footy club. He's coming to work every day, training to improve. So we've just got to keep creating the right environment and encouraging Harley with the right behaviors. That's all our job is."
Reid is set to suit up against Hawthorn on Sunday at Marvel Stadium for the final game of Round 7.
