Former Essendon forward Jayden Davey has linked up with St Kilda's new VFL program ahead of the 2026 season.

Davey, who spent last year with VFL outfit Port Melbourne and this summer in the Top End with Palmerston, will suit up for the Saints' reserves for the side's practice match against the Borough.

The 21-year-old was listed with Essendon for the 2023 and 2024 seasons before being delisted, with no AFL debut arising across his injury-impacted spell at the top level.

The son of ex-Bomber Alwyn Davey snr, Jayden entered the AFL already sidelined with an ACL injury, and would play 18 VFL games in his last year in red and black.

He would add three games to his tally with Port Melbourne last year, spending most of 2025 with Geelong and District Football League outfit Anakie.

The Darwin junior returned to the Northern Territory in recent months to feature for Palmerston, where he claimed best and fairest honours.

The Oakleigh Chargers product will get his first run in the red, white and black on Friday afternoon when St Kilda's state side takes on Port Melbourne at RSEA Park.

The Saints have named 11 AFL-listed players for that tune-up, including veteran defender Dougal Howard, backman Hunter Clark and new draftee Kye Fincher

Also set to feature is Supplemental Selection Period train-on talent Blake Chambers, who recently earned an invite to push for an AFL list spot.

The Saints had Davey's ex-Essendon and Port Melbourne teammate Tex Wanganeen, as well as Western Jets graduate Oskar Ainsworth, trial as SSP hopefuls earlier in the period.

St Kilda's first VFL season will officially get underway against GWS on Saturday, March 21, in Sydney.
