Contracted Essendon forward Kyle Langford reportedly could 'have his head turned' if frustrations with the Bombers' injury crisis and high-performance issues continue.

Langford is one of several Bombers who have faced multiple soft-tissue setbacks in 2025, with the forward suffering a hamstring tear early in the year before a pair of quad issues that have kept him sidelined since Round 11.

The 28-year-old was Essendon's leading goalkicker in both of their past two seasons, booting 51 goals in 2023 before a further 43 the year after. Injuries have limited Langford to four goals in six games.

According to 7 News' Mitch Cleary, players at Essendon have begun to be frustrated with the ongoing issues relating to high performance. The club is said to be investing and investigating the matter at their base in Tullamarine, with findings from a review potentially released in the next month.

Speaking on the Tradies podcast, Cleary said Langford's future could be tied to the result of the review, with the forward potentially joining other players at the club who could "assess their futures".

"I've got a watching brief on Kyle Langford," Cleary said.

"The Essendon senior players are frustrated and growing in concern around the high-performance team and the dealing of injuries. They've had 10 players suffer soft-tissue injuries this year. Four of those 10 are repeat soft-tissue injuries in the same season.

"They're going through this massive review at the moment. They'll be looking at the surface of the actual Hangar. They're looking at everything. Off the back of that, decisions will be made around the high-performance team.

"This is not necessarily trade-related for now, but off the back of the decisions they make, I expect players will assess their futures. I believe if someone came for Kyle Langford, his head may be turned."

Langford is contracted at Essendon until the end of 2027, having added an extra year to his deal in February last year.

Since joining the Bombers as a first-round selection in 2014, Langford has played 159 games, playing more than 20 matches only twice.

He would earn a spot in the All-Australian squad the first year he played over 20 games in a single season, and finished second in the club's best and fairest the same year.
