Essendon will unveil a new face when the club travels to Queensland to take on Brisbane at the Gabba on Thursday night.

Amid a deep injury crisis that has taken nearly a dozen key position players, Bombers coach Brad Scott has opted to trial players in new positions, whilst also giving opportunities to emerging youngsters.

"We're in a difficult spot, in terms of availability, but the way I look at these things is it creates opportunities for others," Scott said on Monday.

The Victorian club announced that Pick 70 in the 2024 National Draft Zak Johnson will make his debut against the Lions.

Johnson was deemed as one of the best kicks in his draft class, and showcased his immense leadership and big-game moments for Parade College. The classy midfielder was also a former teammate of gun forward Nate Caddy at Parade.

He has played five games in the VFL, averaging 26 disposals and six marks.

"I'm over the moon. I couldn't believe it when I found out and I just can't wait to get up to โ€˜Brissy'," Johnson said.

"It's really exciting, most of the boys that have debuted have all played VFL footy together, so to already see them go well on the big stage and be out there with a few of them is really cool.

"I'm just so grateful to the Club for taking a chance on me, to allow me to be here and show my strengths as a footballer and grow as a person as well, making new relationships with new people.

"I've loved my time at the Bombers and can't wait to get out there this week."
