Embattled Carlton coach Michael Voss says reinforcing discipline of roles will be on the agenda this week following a destructive second-half collapse to Melbourne on Sunday.

The Blues coughed up a 43-point lead to the Demons, which is emblematic of their damning fadeouts under Voss.

"I'm pretty filthy. We're putting ourselves in great positions and we're handing it back," Voss said.

"There's some erratic things that we need to clean up, there's some disciplining roles that we need to continue to reinforce, but more importantly, when we're asked to hold and defend behind the ball – and that's a collective, that's not back six, that's a team system – we're not doing it for long enough," Voss said.

"We've got to put a roadblock somewhere, we've got to put a wedge against that wheel. We've got the capacity there to be able to get it done, and we're just not being able to execute for long enough… Some of that is when we're asked to defend for long periods of time, let's defend, but there's a couple of other things that are on our boot as well that we can tidy up.

"And why it's frustrating and why you're a little bit filthy is because there's all this work, and the gloss has been taken off because we can't finish games the way that we want, and continue to be able to play the way we want to play."

The Blues have a negative return of 153 points in second halves in 2026, but Voss says it's mental lapses that is the cause of the problems, not the fitness of the players.

"We had probably our strongest running team out there today," he added.

"So in terms of our balance and our running power, it's probably as strong as it's been.

"Look, can I just say, we don't discount anything. But at the same time, the capacity side of things, everything's there we need."

Carlton don't have much time to assess the loss, with a five-day break ahead of a Good Friday clash against North Melbourne to come.

Young defender Harry Dean was sent to hospital following a heavy fall in the final 10 minutes of the loss.

Voss could wield the axe at selection with a host of experienced players in the VFL.

Nick Haynes poses as the Dean replacement if last year's top draftee can't overcome a hip issue by Friday, while Nic Newman (suspension) and Adam Saad (hamstring) are around the mark for a recall.
