The football world has held its collective breath the past 24 hours as it awaits news of Josh Kennedy's injury, after the key forward went down midway through the final term against the Giants yesterday.

Football pundits initially feared Kennedy may have suffered a serious ankle or even Achilles injury, however, the Eagles have allayed such fears, with scans returning a somewhat positive result for the club.

West Coast announced on Monday evening that Kennedy will miss just three weeks with a calf strain.

While the club will no doubt miss their star forward, particularly with a game against the Cats coming up in Round 13, it is a great result considering what initially looked a more serious injury.

"He's hurt his calf, so he'll be out for a few weeks. He'll be back after the bye, but it's probably just your standard calf," coach Adam Simpson told Channel Seven.

"When you look at the vision and the way he went down and what he heard, we all feared for the worst.

"But it's probably a bit of a relief he's done a soleus, so it's good news so to speak, but we'll miss him for a few weeks."

The Eagles face the Suns this week at Metricon Stadium, before having the bye in Round 12.

Kennedy has kicked 34 goals in the opening 10 rounds of the season and currently leads the Coleman Medal race.
