Port Adelaide has bolstered their maiden coaching cohort under Josh Carr, signing two-time Glenelg premiership coach Darren Reeves to an assistant role.

Reeves's move from the Bays to Alberton comes after a third Grand Final finish with the Tigers in the SANFL, having led the side to premierships in 2023 and 2024 before falling to Sturt in this year's season decider.

Also a former assistant coach at North Adelaide, Reeves is set to take care of the Power's stoppage work, contest coaching and opposition analysis within Carr's team for 2026.

“I've always harboured the ambition of coaching in an AFL environment, so I'm incredibly excited to be joining Port Adelaide,” he said.

“Working under Josh Carr and having the opportunity to be part of shaping the AFL program moving forward is really appealing.

“I have great admiration for Port Adelaide's history and it's clear the club has a very talented young playing list with huge upside.

“I feel so fortunate and grateful for my time at Glenelg. I want to thank them for supporting me over the last three years.”

Reeves' Glenelg departure comes in the same month the senior coach signed a two-year extension with the state league side through to the end of 2028.

The Tigers, while disappointed with Reeves' exit, expressed their utmost excitement for the departing coach in thanking Reeves for his service to the club.

“Like all of us, our members and fans will be disappointed at losing one of the best and most successful coaches in our Club's history,” Glenelg CEO Justin Scripps said in a statement.

“Darren has left a legacy at our Club that will transcend his time here. He has built a highly connected squad of players and a high-performance culture, which will sustain our Club for years to come.”

Reeves' arrival at the Power comes after the club added Luke Webster and Andy Collins from West Coast and Hawthorn, respectively, since the conclusion of the 2025 season.
