Carlton has revealed that duo Nick Haynes and Matthew Cottrell won't be available for the start of the 2026 season due to injury.

Both players have been placed on modified training programs after undergoing arthroscopy procedures on ankle and knee issues respectively.

The surgeries are set to see Haynes and Cottrell sidelined until at least the club's bye in Round 2, ruling them out for matches against Sydney and Richmond to commence the campaign.

"Carlton defender Nick Haynes and midfielder Matthew Cottrell will be on modified programs over the coming weeks after undergoing minor procedures on Wednesday," a clun updated read.

"Haynes (ankle) and Cottrell (knee) both had arthroscopes completed to alleviate the soreness that had been restricting them at training in recent weeks.

"This now allows them to recover fully, with their availability to play to be assessed following the Club's bye in Round 2."

Haynes played all 23 games under Michael Voss last year in what was his first season with the club since moving from GWS.

Cottrell managed just the six matches, with surgery on a foot injury bringing his season to a close early.

Carlton is scheduled to take on Melbourne at the MCG in Round 3 before its Good Friday clash against North Melbourne and Round 5 Gather Round bout with Adelaide.
