Fremantle forward Sam Switkowski has been referred directly to the AFL Tribunal following a serious misconduct charge.

The Match Review Officer has laid the charge on Switkowski following an incident involving Magpie Jack Ginnivan in the final quarter of Sunday's match at Optus Stadium.

The MRO has assessed the incident in question as serious misconduct, with Switkowski set to face the AFL Tribunal this week.

Switkowski made his return to Justin Longmuir's side for the Round 10 encounter after missing last week's outing under AFL concussion protocols.

Fremantle are scheduled to face Melbourne at the MCG in Round 11.

The MRO's charge on the Fremantle forward follows Mason Redman's one-game ban for striking during Saturday night's Dreamtime match at the MCG.
