Sacked Kangaroos midfielder Tarryn Thomas has reportedly been held at gunpoint during a car sale gone wrong in Ballarat, as the 25-year-old was allegedly held in a hostage situation for several hours a fortnight ago.

Thomas was suspended for 18 games for being found guilty of inappropriate behaviour towards women in 2024, which led to North Melbourne tearing up the 69-gamer's contract, as the AFL's ban prevented Thomas playing football of any level that season.

Earlier this year, Thomas was permitted to play football again as high as state league level if a suitor presented itself, however, it could not be for an AFL-aligned team. Thomas met with VFL standalone club Northern Bullants and trained with WAFL team Swan Districts but neither side opted to take on the disgraced footballer.

Two months down the track, and Thomas' off-field drama has continued to spiral, after being involved in a frightening situation in Ballarat.

Thomas was set to sell his girlfriend's car in the regional location, reportedly meeting with a group of men at a pub on a Saturday night. It is understood that Thomas arrived at around 9:00 pm, and Thomas would mingle with the men for about an hour at the pub before heading to a separate location to commence the sale of the car, according to 9News' Isabel Quinlan.

As they were driving to the new location, Tarryn and his friend were allegedly held at gunpoint and demanded to hand over the papers to the car as well as thousands of dollars. It is reported that Thomas and his friend were held hostage for "several hours" before the former AFL footballer managed to make a deal to be dropped off at a property, where they would call police.

Thomas recounted this incident to police but has since retracted his statement after days of investigation, while the car he intended to sell has been found and returned.

The broadcaster contacted Thomas' lawyers but no comment was made, while the ex-Roo has deactivated his Instagram account since the incident occurred.

Thomas remains under a 12-month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to breaching a court order in November last year, however avoided criminal conviction for harassment of his former partner, a charge that was eventually dropped after being heard in court.
