Melbourne Demons key defender Marty Hore has been required to undergo season-ending knee surgery after sustaining two significant injuries in the VFL last weekend.

The Demons confirmed on Saturday that the 2018 draftee suffered a torn ACL last weekend, as well as a ruptured biceps tendon, effectively ending his 2025 campaign.

The news brings more heartbreak to Hore's run of injury luck, having already sustained an ACL injury in 2021, which saw him be delisted from the Demons AFL playing list.

He resiliently fought back into the side with standout seasons in the VFL at Williamstown and North Melbourne, returning to AFL action in 2024 but has continued to battle injury in 2025, being dealt a calf injury and hand fracture already this season.

โ€œMarty unfortunately sustained injuries to both his bicep and knee during last week's VFL game,โ€ Melbourne GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson said.

โ€œScans of his knee revealed a torn medial meniscus and suspected damage to his ACL. It was determined that, during the operation to repair his meniscus, he also required reconstruction of his ACL.

โ€œThis is incredibly disappointing news for Marty, particularly given how hard he has worked to get himself back to full fitness.

โ€œIt's been a tough run, but he continues to face every challenge with maturity and determination. We know he will approach this latest setback with the same attitude and positivity he's shown time and time again.

โ€œMarty is a much loved and respected member of our playing group and he will get all the support and care he needs from the club and his teammates. In addition to this, his character, work ethic and commitment to the team are first class.โ€

Hore played six games for Melbourne in 2024, with a standout performance in Round 23 against Gold Coast, taking nine marks, four intercepts and collecting 18 disposals.
