North Melbourne's VFL side has locked away Thomson Dow for the 2026 season after his time at Richmond came to an end.

Dow played 45 games across six seasons for the Tigers, but was a victim of a midfield squeeze, especially given the host of exciting draft prospects making their way in the top flight.

The 24-year-old was selected with Pick 21 in 2019 out of the Bendigo Pioneers.

"We are thrilled to announce the signing of Thomson from the Richmond Football Club," Kangaroos VFL head coach Adam Marcon said.

"He comes to us with a really strong reputation and AFL experience that will be invaluable to our group.

"He will be a strong presence for us through the midfield with his run and clearance work, and we look forward to seeing him in the blue and white next year."

Ex-Gold Coast midfielder Darcy Macpherson has also been retained following an outstanding debut season in the blue and white.

Macpherson joined North Melbourne's reserves side after a lengthy stint at the Suns, which spanned over nine years and 97 matches.

The 28-year-old finished runner-up in 2025, and has since joined the Kangaroos' development coaching group on a full-time basis.

"Darcy has had a significant impact on the VFL program and club in just a year," Marcon said.

"This impact is best displayed by winning the John Law Medal, being the VFL captain in 2025 and now integrating full-time into our AFL program as a development coach.

"Darcy will continue to play within our VFL team so that he can continue to aid the development of our AFL forward group and VFL-listed players."

The VFL season is set to kick off on the weekend of March 21-22, 2026, coinciding with Round 2 of the AFL season.

North Melbourne finished 15th in 2025, claiming seven wins from 18 starts.
