Recently delisted Hawthorn sharpshooter Fergus Greene will return to his former club Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football Netball League after his departure from the Hawks.
Greene was one of six players not offered a new deal by the Hawks at the cessation of the 2023 season, with the former Western Bulldogs player leaving Waverley after one season on the club's AFL list.
The 25-year-old earned a spot in Sam Mitchell's squad after a strong period with Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill, gaining a promotion via delisted free agency a year ago.
Greene would play 11 games in the brown and gold for a return of 15 goals, with his final appearance coming in Round 18 against North Melbourne where he sustained a knee injury.
The clean-kicking medium forward has now returned to the BNFL and signed with his junior club Sandhurst for the 2024 season.
Greene was one of the premier VFL forwards prior to his AFL venture, having kicked 53 goals from 17 games for Box Hill last year.
He was initially drafted to the Bulldogs in 2016 and would play five matches for the club across four seasons before being delisted
Sandhurst finished the 2023 season as minor premiers after recording just one loss from their home and away campaign, however would lose the seniors grand final to Golden Square.
Greene follows recent Hawks departures Emerson Jeka (Essendon VFL) and Josh Morris (Woodville-West Torrens) in finding new homes for next year.
