Fremantle have been successful in prying out-of-contract defender Judd McVee out of Melbourne, with the 22-year-old officially telling the Demons he would like to move back to his home state Western Australia on Sunday.
According to AFL Media's Cal Twomey, McVee has turned down several contract offers from Melbourne over the course of this season as he weighed up his future, and has now decided to turn his back on the Demons for a return to WA.
McVee was drafted out of East Fremantle in the WAFL as a rookie ahead of the 2022 season, and played 65 games in the red and blue, often tasked with curbing some of the league's most prominent small forwards.
He averaged 14.4 disposals and 4.5 marks per game in 2025.
Fremantle currently holds picks 11, 29, 38, 47 and 65 in this year's National Draft, as well as their own first rounders in 2026 and 2027, making the potential return package for McVee an intriguing proposition to ponder, especially considering how reportedly "desperate" the Demons were to keep McVee on their playing list.
