Adelaide and St Kilda are set to be at odds over the deal for Brad Crouch after it was disclosed that the Crows would not get first-band compensation for the deal.

The Saints have already lodged the paperwork for Crouch, however the Crows were looking to receive Pick 2 in compensation for their star onballer.

Ex-Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes said on AFL Trade Radio that it would be silly of Adelaide not to match St Kilda's offer and instead walk away with lower compensation.

“They have to (match the bid). Adelaide have to,” Cornes said.

“You can’t talk tough this time of the year and you can’t be running around on multiple platforms with the big spokespeople from the club in Adam Kelly and Mark Ricciuto saying if it’s not pick No.2, we are matching.

“You can’t then not let him walk for free and what a push over the Adelaide Football Club would look like if they let Brad Crouch go to the Saints."

However on the other side of the desk, Matthew Lloyd believes that things could get obscure, as the Saints wouldn't want to trade players.

“Pick No.15 (St Kilda's first-round pick) to me feels about right,” Lloyd told AFL Trade Radio’s The Early Trade.

“Once it (pick No.23) pushes out with all the Academy picks it will be 28 or something like that for Brad Crouch.

“I’d be staggered if Adelaide accepted the compensation pick.

“I have a St Kilda man who told me that they would get Bradley Hill, Dougal Howard, Paddy Ryder, Dan Butler, he’s saying that St Kilda expect that they (Adelaide) will it accept it (compensation pick).

“But I just don’t see after what I’ve heard that they can possibly take that compensation pick.

"I don’t think they would want him back and is there another club that would take Brad Crouch?"

Adelaide football boss Adam Kelly told Trade Radio on Wednesday that the club wouldn't settle for anything less than Pick 2 or a deal of equal value.

“We would certainly be looking for a better outcome if it's not pick No.2," Kelly told AFL Trade Radio last week.

"Fortunately, in this situation, Brad's been fairly open about his love of Adelaide and of the footy club, so we don't think it would be a scenario where the player would not be wanting to come back to the club.

“That pick itself could push out to the mid-20s after all the Next Generation Academy (bids). We don’t see that as adequate compensation for a player of Brad’s calibre, so we’d certainly be looking at matching.”

St. Kilda does have Pick 15 at their disposal, and it is looking more and more likely that they will have to throw that into a deal if they want to get their man.
Adelaide will have until 5pm AEDT on Wednesday to match the offer.
