AFL concussion advisor Adriana Oreskov revealed a hidden detail about the change to AFL insurance policies coming into effect from May 1.
She works with more than 100 AFL players as an AFL claims advocate and insurance advisor.
It has been revealed that insurance company Zurich has excluded concussion and mental health related to concussion from its policies from May 1.
But there is also an additional cost players are set to be lugged with as the sport increasingly faces an uphill battle to ensure players are financially protected for their injuries.
"There has been a drop in the level of cover from 1.1 million to 450k and the premium has gone from $60 per month to $413," Oreskov said on SEN.
It means players are set to be more than $4,000 poorer in the pocket per year as money is taken out of their superfund.
Oreskov further said that it is not an entirely surprising move given what has been experienced at claims time in the past 18 months.
It comes after news surfaced on Tuesday afternoon that Collingwood premiership player Nathan Murphy and former Magpie and Adelaide player Paul Seedsman have still not been paid out after being forced to medically retire.
Seedsman is no longer pursuing a claim.
