With a tight turnaround, and an even tighter achilles, Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury will likely miss next weekend's clash against reigning premier Brisbane at the Gabba.
The 428-game veteran didn't return to the field on Friday night after leaving the ground in the third quarter against Greater Western Sydney to have his achilles assessed.
Speaking to Seven after the 33-point Magpies victory, Pendlebury said his absence from the late stages of the game was precautionary.
"Not a concern, we made a smart call," he said.
"I hurt my ankle against Adelaide and it sort of got tight again around that area. We came back out and we were up by 25 points, so we just said, 'We don't need to push it here, we have a six-day break'. I'll just get myself right for that.
"Just after halftime it got sore again in a similar spot. Is what it is and nothing to worry about."
The six-day break plus flights to and from Brisbane means Collingwood is unlikely to risk their man who is just four games off drawing level with North Melbourne legend Brent Harvey for most matches ever in the AFL (432).
Magpies coach Craig McRae said he and Pendlebury had previously discussed resting the veteran midfielder for the club's away clash against the Lions.
"(Pendlebury) was unlikely to go to this game, so we will probably stick to that plan," McRae said.
"Six-day travel into Brisbane and then back to Melbourne to Gather Round that was always our plan not to go to this game.
“We got told it was a tight Achilles. I don't know (the severity), the paint is still wet, we will have to find all this out."
