Collingwood captain Darcy Moore has been ruled out of the marquee Anzac Day clash with an inner ear issue.
Moore copped a knee to the head in a marking contest from teammate Jeremy Howe during the Magpies' win over Brisbane last Thursday night, but played out the remainder of the game and was a part of the Collingwood group who went to the Shrine of Remembrance on Tuesday ahead of the blockbuster clash.
At that ceremony, Moore eased concerns in a press conference, downplaying the injury's severity, saying that he had missed Tuesday's training due to a cold.
"It was obviously a bit of a tricky one to stitch the inside of your ear," Moore joked on Tuesday.
However, Moore was absent from training again on Wednesday and has begun experiencing vertigo symptoms since, attributed to his ear injury from the head knock in Round 6.
The club has since made a call on his selection status, ruling the 29-year-old out of the team for the public holiday clash.
Moore is not in concussion protocols however, meaning he will be available to return in Round 8 if symptoms subside.
"Darcy Moore sustained a lacerated earlobe which required stitches during the final quarter of Collingwood's game against Brisbane on Thursday night," a club update read.
"While he was cleared of concussion, he has developed inner ear symptoms this week which the Club's medical team are assessing.
"He is not available for selection this week and the club will provide an update in due course."
The omission could present an opportunity for young key defender Charlie Dean, or extra responsibility for Billy Frampton.
One of the two vice-captains Nick Daicos and Brayden Maynard will also have their duties elevated for the match.
Meanwhile, in-form forward Lachie Schultz remains at least another week away from his hamstring injury, with the ex-Docker to be assessed next week ahead of Round 8.
"Lachie Schultz is making positive progress with his recovery from a hamstring injury with a focus on high-speed running over the next week," an update read.
"Schultz won't play on Anzac Day and will be assessed next week to determine his availability for selection in Round Eight."
Key forward Ash Johnson remains at least a month away with his leg injury.
