Craig McRae has signed a contract extension to remain the senior coach at Collingwood until the end of 2028.

McRae entered talks with the Pies ahead of the final year of his deal, but has added two seasons.

The new agreement's length is timely given Tasmania's introduction to the AFL, which is set for the beginning of 2028.

"Since arriving at Collingwood, Craig has built a philosophy centred on connection, resilience and getting better every day," Pies president Barry Carp said.

"Under his leadership, the Club has reconnected with its people, honoured its history and brought the Magpie Army along the journey, highlighted by our unforgettable 2023 premiership.

"Internally, Craig drives our family first value and connection between players and staff while emphasising the importance of extending that connection with our 19th player - Collingwood Members and supporters.

"We are delighted this connection will continue for at least three more seasons."

McRae's extension comes as the club is set to embark on an all-in theme for 2026, with a host of veterans likely going around one more time in search of another premiership.

The three-time Brisbane premiership player joined the Victorian powerhouse ahead of the 2022 campaign, and immediately made an impression, taking the club back to the finals after a 17th-placed finish the season before.

A heartbreaking one-point preliminary final loss to Sydney spurred Collingwood on 12 months later, who became the kings of the close finish, and reversed the result by toppling the Lions in the 2023 decider.

After a down year in 2024, which saw the Pies miss September, McRae led the black and white army back towards the pointy end of the season, and despite beginning to falter late in the year, played in the penultimate weekend against eventual premiers Brisbane.

Before his time at Collingwood, McRae had worked as a development and assistant coach at the Melbourne Storm, as well as Richmond and Hawthorn.
