Carlton have confirmed young midfielder-forward Elijah Hollands will not play in Round 11 due to personal reasons.

Hollands took indefinite leave in March this year for a personal matter, delaying the start of the 23-year-old's campaign with the Blues.

He would return through the VFL in early April before suiting up for his first AFL game of the year in Round 6 when Carlton met with North Melbourne on Good Friday.

"He's been really upfront with us about where he is at," Blues coach Michel Voss said of Hollands' leave of absence at the start of the season.

"It's something that we've been talking about a fair bit with him and monitoring him, and he felt like the best course of action was to take some personal leave.

"For us right now as a football club, as a football team, we support it. He's going to spend some time on himself, and for us, we carry on with the season."

On Thursday, the Blues confirmed with their team selection that Hollands will require more time away from the game, with the club throwing its support behind the youngster.

โ€œOur support for Elijah remains ongoing, with the focus being on what is in the best interests of his personal health and wellbeing,โ€ Blues football boss Brad Lloyd said in a club statement.

โ€œAs we know the journey is certainly not linear when it comes to this space, and as a club we will ensure Elijah is given all the time, care and support he needs.โ€

Hollands has played 27 games for Carlton since switching from Gold Coast at the end of 2023, missing two games to start his maiden season in navy blue after being found in possession of an illicit substance.

He would go on to play every other game under Voss that year, including a role in the Blues' elimination final against Brisbane.

In Hollands' place, Carlton have named Harry O'Farrell, Tom De Koning, Blake Acres, Lachie Fogarty and Sam Docherty to take on GWS at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, with Marc Pittonet, Jack Silvagni, Jordan Boyd and Francis Evans also making way.
