Carlton has confirmed that Jacob Weitering has sustained a rib fracture following the heavy marking contest in Saturday's State of Origin clash.
Early in the revival game, Weitering was crunched by WA's Mitch Georgiades early in the match, and was stretchered off the field.
The Blues provided the following statement.
"Carlton co-vice captain Jacob Weitering had his chest area further assessed by the Blues' medical staff after returning to the Club today," it said.
"This assessment confirmed Weitering had sustained a rib fracture, but the defender has been cleared of any other injury. As a result, he remains a good chance to be available to play in Opening Round.
"The 28-year-old will now focus on making a full recovery, with the Club to confirm his availability to play against Sydney during the week of Opening Round."
Weitering was taken straight to the hospital and was given the all clear to return to Melbourne on Sunday, with no serious injuries sustained.
The Blues star wasn't the only injury from the State of Origin clash, with Georgiades and GWS' Sam Taylor also failing to run out the contest with hamstring concerns.
Adelaide recruit and Brisbane premiership player Callum Ah Chee became the fourth casualty on the night, also suffering a hamstring injury in his right leg.
Gold Coast star and reigning Brownlow medallist Matt Rowell also confirmed a finger injury, but isn't expected to miss the upcoming practice matches.
