The Western Bulldogs have reportedly enquired about the availability of fringe Geelong midfielder Mitch Knevitt ahead of the 2025 trade period, but it appears the Dogs will be unlucky in their pursuits of midfield depth pieces once again, as Knevitt is set to re-sign with the Cats for 2026.
According to AFL Media's Josh Gabelich, the Bulldogs enquired about Knevitt after young midfielder Neil Erasmus chose to re-sign with Fremantle earlier this month, who they had been heavily linked with as the 21-year-old weighed up his future in Western Australia.
However, similarly to Erasmus, Knevitt has also opted to continue his career at his current club following a career year, despite facing some injury disruptions that saw him feature in just seven senior games this season.
With an older midfield mix, featuring players like Adam Treloar who are now entering the twilight years of their AFL career, the Bulldogs have been in the market for another midfielder, but their attempts to acquire one have been futile thus far.
Gabelich believes that "signing a key defender is a priority" now for the Dogs, but they will likely continue to look for midfield options into the trade period.
Mitch Knevitt will stay at Geelong on a new contract, amid rival interest in the opportunity-starved midfielder.@JoshGabelich has the details.

Knevitt featured more prominently in the midfield this season in his seven appearances for the Cats, averaging a career-high 2.0 clearances per game and 11.6 disposals.
However, if you take the two matches Knevitt started as sub out of the equation, his numbers jump to 14.8 disposals and 2.8 clearances per game, highlighting his promise and strong development even while facing health concerns.
More to come...
