Brisbane midfielder Hugh McCluggage will not return against Collingwood in the traditional Easter Thursday clash at the Gabba.

McCluggage is recovering from a calf injury he sustained in Opening Round against the Western Bulldogs, but has failed to return as intrigue builds around the severity of the injury.

"He won't play this week," Lions coach Chris Fagan said.

"He's a chance for next week, but not this week. It's too soon, five days after we played.

"He's a very important player for us."

McCluggage is part of a lengthy injury list, which welcomed Darcy Gardiner (shoulder) and Noah Answerth (concussion) last week.

Keidean Coleman, who played the majority of his game in the front half against St Kilda, is poised to return to his old role to fill the Answerth void.

Ty Gallop helped in defence when Gardiner went down last week, and is set to maintain his role against the Pies.

"We thought he played pretty well down there last week for his first go at it," Fagan said.

"He's a natural competitor. That's a big plus and a good starting point if you want to play down in defence, and for his overall football development, it's a good thing.

"He'll no doubt be down there again (against Collingwood)."
