The 2025 AFL season presents another opportunity for some of the competition's lesser-known big men to enjoy breakout seasons.

It seems each year there's a fringe ruckman or two who make a name for themselves with stellar rises after earning first-string status come selection.

Tristan Xerri, Tom De Koning and Lloyd Meek enjoyed massive campaigns last year after taking the main spot, while GWS big man Kieren Briggs did the same the season prior.

With the emergence of more rucks, we've taken a look at which players could follow the same trajectory in 2025.

4. Liam Reidy

Fremantle's commitment to a two-ruck system puts Liam Reidy in a prime position to take a big leap forward in 2025.

The 206cm ruckman dominated the WAFL in 2024 with Peel Thunder, averaging a staggering 43 hitouts per game, and while his AFL experience has been limited, his performances at the state level have shown he's ready to make the step up.

Reidy's greatest strength is his ability to impose himself in the contest. He thrives in the ruck battle with his tap work, but he also excels in contested marking, making him a valuable asset around the ground.

His ability to provide a strong aerial presence, particularly in defensive 50, gives Fremantle an extra layer of security when transitioning from defence to attack.

With Sean Darcy still recovering from injury, Reidy has a golden opportunity to claim a greater share of the ruck duties early in the season. If he can prove himself in the opening rounds, he could solidify his role alongside Luke Jackson and push for a permanent place in Fremantle's best 23.

Given the Dockers' structured approach to their ruck combination, Reidy's development in 2025 will be key to the team's overall success.
