Former Hawthorn premiership player Jonathon Simpkin has joined Essendon as a top-up player for 2016.
Simpkin was a member of the Hawks' 2013 premiership side, playing 33 games for the club between 2013 and 2015.
Essendon will become his fourth club after stints at Geelong, Hawthorn and a short stint on Sydney's rookie list.
"Jonathan still has the hunger to perform at the highest level, he brings premiership experience and will provide us with depth through the midfield," football manager Rob Kerr said.
"Off the field we identified Jonathan as a person who aligned well with our team vision and culture, and he's a player who we feel can also help develop our young playing list this season."
Simpkin joins former Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley and three-time Geelong premiership James Kelly as top-up players for the Bombers, while former Cat Matthew Stokes and ex-Tiger Matthew Dea are also reportedly set to sign with the Bombers.
The Bombers have until March 15 to finialise their playing list for 2016.
