Melbourne have delisted former co-captain Jack Trengove after eight seasons at the club.

Trengove was selected with the second pick in the 2009 AFL National Draft, and was named as the club's co-captain alongside Jack Grimes at the beginning of the 2012 season, before stepping down at the end of the 2013 campaign.

Melbourne's General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney thanked Trengove for his services.

โ€œJack has been an outstanding person to have come through the Melbourne Football Club. He leaves having captained the club through some tough times and having provided genuine leadership to all his teammates, particularly the younger players coming through in recent times,โ€ he told melbournefc.com.au.

โ€œHis resilience and ability to overcome a serious foot injury was testament to his character. To again play at the highest level, when the odds were against him, was a credit to his perseverance and will to play in the AFL.

โ€œHe has been a highly-popular figure among the entire football club and our supporters, who have admired him greatly for his persistence.

โ€œWe thank Jack for his time and service to the club. He has left no stone unturned in his pursuit to forge an AFL career and to fight back from an injury that clearly impacted his career. He should be proud of his achievements in the face of adversity.โ€

Ruckman Jake Spencer, and rookies Mitch White and Liam Hulett were also delisted by the club.
