In a move that would have old-timers at either end of Mt. Alexander Road bringing up their lunches, North Melbourne and Essendon combined forces on Saturday for a scratch match against the Brisbane Lions reserves.

With the pair of clubs forced to flee the Covid stricken state of Victoria swiftly on Thursday afternoon, minimal time was afforded for either side to schedule a contest for the names on their list outside of senior selection in Round 18.

The bitter rivals came to the decision to 'merge' for the afternoon before parting ways and once again becoming enemies ahead of Sunday's AFL clash between the club's at Metricon Stadium.

The unofficial contest that took place at Yeoronga this afternoon saw the combined side run out victors by 46-points, with Kangaroos draftee Charlie Comben slotting six majors, per reports from the North Melbourne Football Club.

Comben was taken with the 31st pick of last year's draft and has had an injury interrupted first year at Arden Street.

The 199 centimetre forward from Gippsland reportedly showed good form in the Kangaroos' pre-season clash with the Demons earlier in the year, but has since been hampered with a tibial stress fracture that only allowed him to return to the track in two-months ago.

Should the teenager's form on Saturday be anything to go by, North Melbourne fans can expect to see the young Roo make the bound to AFL level before the season is completed.
