The AFLW Supplementary Draft is set to be held on Tuesday, April 4, confirmed by the league as details around season eight become clearer.

The Supplementary Draft will be held instead of the usual AFLW Draft, with nominations opening on March 15. With the competition holding two seasons in the 2022 calendar year, the Supplementary Draft is intended to an "age reset" prior to the kickoff of season eight, bringing Draft eligibility in line with the first six seasons of the competition.

In the Supplementary Draft, clubs will not be required to add players to their list, but it will be their final chance to sign new talent prior to the season kicking off.

The league is expected to confirm the final draft order following the conclusion of both the PSP and Sign and trade period, while also confirming that the Draft will be a 'national pool', meaning that for the first time draftees will be able to be drafted to any of the 18 clubs in the competition.

The Draft news comes as the AFLW's Priority Signing Period (PSP) gets underway on March 1, set to run until March 8, a period in which expansion clubs are able to sign players without a trade.

Following the PSP, the Sign and trade period will commence on March 10.
