Sydney defender Lewis Melican can expect to receive some scrutiny from the Match Review Officer (MRO) for the incident involving GWS' Toby Bedford.

In the grudge match between the two rivals, Melican can be seen making a play on the ball, but swinging a single arm towards Bedford, which makes contact with his face.

The Giants' run-with player drew blood and was substituted from the game, and was replaced by Jake Stringer.

The league has been steadfast in dealing with swinging arms this year, sanctioning players Conor Nash (four weeks) and Jack Scrimshaw (three weeks) for their respective incidents.

Melican is likely to receive a similar sanction, but could differ depending on how the impact is graded, whether it be severe or high.

A case can be made that the Swans defender was attempting to spike the ball forward, but as proven in recent cases, if the offending player gets it wrong, they'll be penalised.

Giants coach Adam Kingsley provided an update on Bedford following the loss to Sydney.

"He seems okay. He's just got really blurred vision, he can't see out of that eye at all. We had to make the sub at half time, which was obviously quite disappointing for us," Kingsley said.
