Port Adelaide forward Willie Rioli can expect the ire of the AFL's Match Review Officer for an off-ball strike on Western Bulldogs backman Bailey Dale.

A third-term incident in the centre of Mars Stadium saw Rioli make contact to the upper body of Dale away from play with his left arm/hand.

Given the distance between the ball and the pair of players, the MRO is likely to grade Rioli's actions as 'intentional' conduct should he hand down a striking charge.

The contact grading would likely be graded as 'high' given that contact looked to have been made close to Dale's face, with the impact grading to decide the severity of the penalty.

Even a 'low' impact grading would lead to a one-game suspension if Rioli's actions are graded as 'intentional' conduct and 'high' contact.

A 'medium' impact grading would result in a two-game suspension.

If the contact grading is deemed to be 'body' rather than 'high', a 'low' impact grading would see Rioli hit with a fine instead of a suspension.

Port Adelaide are scheduled to face Adelaide, Geelong and Fremantle in their next three matches.

Rioli served two suspensions in 2023 for striking charges after separate incidents involving Collingwood's Nathan Murphy and Essendon's Jordan Ridley. Rioli also paid $1250 last year for a staging offence in the finals, and paid a $1000 fine for an 'other misconduct' charge earlier this season.

The MRO will hand down their findings from Saturday's matches on Sunday evening.
