Hawthorn midfielder Jai Newcombe could expect to receive some Match Review Officer (MRO) scrutiny for his dangerous tackle on Brisbane's Jarrod Berry.

During the third term of Saturday's clash, Newcombe can be seen lifting Berry, with the latter's legs coming well off the ground, before dumping him onto the ground.

The Lions runner was able to play out the contest after receiving the free kick, but will be assessed after only returning from a concussion this week.

It is tackles like these the AFL has attempted to eliminate in fears of increasing injury risks and potential head knocks.

Although Berry returned to play, Newcombe's incident could be graded higher as the tackle has the potential to cause injury.

The Mid-Season Draftee is in contention to miss the crunch clash against Collingwood at the MCG on Friday night.

The MRO's findings from Saturday's games will be released on Sunday evening.
